Poetic Captions: A Blast From the Past

I’ve been busy all week sorting through boxes of books and boxes full of old stories. I didn’t get a chance to write Monday’s post (sorry about that).  While digging through years of writing, I came across a poem that I wrote as a teen for my grandparent’s 50th anniversary.  I wanted to share that poem with you today.  There won’t be an illustration or an activity this week.  Stay tuned for next weeks’ Poetic Caption, in which there will be an illustration by Bill and poem/activity by me.

Happily ever after...

True Love

Once upon a time
You met each other
You started an everlasting bond
That’s kept you together

Once upon a time
You had your first date
And everything else
Was left to fate

Once upon a time
That fondness grew to love
Deep within your hearts
You knew you would never be apart

Once upon a time
Vows were exchanged between you
Now 50 years has come
And that love is still true

Do you have any old poems/stories lying around?

If you liked this post please let others know. Join me next Friday for another Poetic Caption. On Ouch Monday, I’ll be talking about networking. I hope you come back for that. Until then dare to write the impossible.

  1. I bet your grandparents thought you were absolutely the cutest, sweetest granddaughter in the whole world.

    1. I believe they got me to read it at their anniversary party. That was awhile ago and I sort of remember reading it out.

  3. I can just imagine how thrilled and proud your grandparents were when you read the poem! 50 years is really something -- and it's wonderful to commemorate such special occasions with poetry.

  4. Such lovely poem :) I wrote a song for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary a few years ago - to the tune of When He Was A Lad from the HMS Pinafore by Gilbert&Sullivan :) It tells the story of their relationship and we all had a pretty good time with it :)
