Poetic Captions: Blog Party and a Contest

Party On!

As some of you know I’ve been participating in a picture book challenge –12x12in2012 hosted by the wonderful Julie Hedlund.Today, I’m celebrating along with my fellow 12x12ers the completion of six manuscripts. Since joining the challenge I’ve completed six manuscripts with the last two being part of a series. I met my wonderful critique group (Kirsten, Jennifer, Julie, and Jodi – you ladies rock). I’ve been exposed to a multitude of resources and have daily access to a wonderful group willing to encourage me every step of the way.

So in celebration I’m reaching out to all my creative friends and asking you come up with a caption for the illustration below. I’ll pick a winner and use the winning caption to write a poem. I will post the poem next Friday. The winner will receive a $20 Barnes and Noble gift card. Leave your name and caption in the comments below.  Contest closes on July 1 at 11:30pm (mountain time). Contest is open to everyone.

Party on!

Can you come up with a caption for this image?

If you liked this post please let others know.  Come back next Friday and enjoy a poem by me and illustration by Bill. On Ouch Monday, I’ll be sharing revision tips. I hope you come back for that. Until then dare to write the impossible.

    1. Thanks. My husband drew the picture. I have a Raggedy Ann doll sitting beside my books but he decided to turn in into a vampire doll.

  7. Love Bill's pictures. I guess I'm here to offer encouragement and luck to everyone. Especially you Rena. I once wrote a poem about my doll that sat on my shelf and it's one of my favorites. In fact my first doll still sits on my shelf.

  9. Hi Rena, She looks a little like Ragityanne, so the caption could say something like.." Ragityandie, will you be my bookend?" Anyway, Happy half way and good luck with the next 6!

  10. "Give me Ink not Blood!"

    Happy Halfway Point, Rena!

    2. Haha! Could you imagine if picture books were that long? Although Hugo Cabret could be labelled as a picture book.

  12. Congratulations, Rena!
And thanks for sharing the celebration with all of us. I look forward to reading your poem on Friday. My idea for the caption follows:

    Library of the Living Dead.

  13. Congrats Rena on making it to the halfway point!

The only caption I could think of is "The Boogie Doll Is Watching You!" as a kind of take off of the Boogie man...lol...

  15. Hi Rena,
How about The Time Traveler's Tales or The Lil' Time Traveler? I think these would get my creative juices flowing. Good Luck! :)

  16. Hi Rena, how about The Time Traveler's Tales? I think I could get creative with that title.

  17. Oops! You've got two comments from me, because my IPad was causing me trouble. I think it 's got its own personality. Hmmm, going to have to give this troublesome child a name.

  23. Caption: "Are you looking at me?" Congrats on your manuscripts. Enjoy the rest of the year.

  24. Congrats Rena! On to December and the next party.
Caption suggestion: (there are so many good ones above, but...)
"Don't be avfraid...I onlee vant to drink yourr dreams."

  25. I'm afraid I'm late to enter, and my creativity is waning, Rena, but that sure looks like Raggedy Ann to me. Maybe she want to be made real like the Velveteen Rabbit. "Play with me, read with me" pleads Raggedy Ann. "I'll come alive!"
It's late, but I wanted to comment before I headed to bed. Keep up the good work, Rena...we will all reach our goal together!
