Poetic Captions: Blog Party and a Contest
Party On! |
As some of you know I’ve been participating in a picture book challenge –12x12in2012 hosted by the wonderful Julie Hedlund.Today, I’m celebrating along with my fellow 12x12ers the completion of six manuscripts. Since joining the challenge I’ve completed six manuscripts with the last two being part of a series. I met my wonderful critique group (Kirsten, Jennifer, Julie, and Jodi – you ladies rock). I’ve been exposed to a multitude of resources and have daily access to a wonderful group willing to encourage me every step of the way.
So in celebration I’m reaching out to all my creative friends and asking you come up with a caption for the illustration below. I’ll pick a winner and use the winning caption to write a poem. I will post the poem next Friday. The winner will receive a $20 Barnes and Noble gift card. Leave your name and caption in the comments below. Contest closes on July 1 at 11:30pm (mountain time). Contest is open to everyone.
If you liked this post please let others know. Come back next Friday and enjoy a poem by me and illustration by Bill. On Ouch Monday, I’ll be sharing revision tips. I hope you come back for that. Until then dare to write the impossible.
Looking Back To Past Posts
I'm drawing a blank on a caption (it's still early in the morning!) but I wanted to congratulate you on being 6 for 6 in 12 x 12! Yay you! Happy Half-Way There!
ReplyDeleteThanks Beth.
Deletehumm.... a caption??
ReplyDeleteLooks like "A Vamp and Zombie's Suggested Reading Shelf"
Love the little vampire doll. lol. Too cute.
Thanks. My husband drew the picture. I have a Raggedy Ann doll sitting beside my books but he decided to turn in into a vampire doll.
DeleteSorry...I am drawing a blank as of now for the Caption but congrats on the accomplishments so far with 12x12in2012 Picture Book Challenge. Wishing you an even more productive second half!
ReplyDeleteFun idea for a party!
ReplyDeleteHmmm..
How about...
"Get me down and read to me before I'M THE NEXT YA PARANORMAL!"
Haha nice.
DeleteCongratulations on your 6! Hmmm. for a caption, how about "Lil' Monster's nostalgic treasures"?
ReplyDeleteWhat's a party without a game! Love your contest. I'm not good with captions but here goes:
ReplyDeleteDark Days are made Brighter with Books
Love Bill's pictures. I guess I'm here to offer encouragement and luck to everyone. Especially you Rena. I once wrote a poem about my doll that sat on my shelf and it's one of my favorites. In fact my first doll still sits on my shelf.
ReplyDeleteThanks and thanks. I haven't a clue where my first doll ended up but I still remember what it looked like.
DeleteCaption: Raggedy Ann sinks her teeth into books.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to have you in the challenge Rena! Your poetic side is an inspiration to me as I've tried to become more comfortable writing poetry.
Thanks! Thanks for putting together the 12x12 challenge
DeleteHi Rena, She looks a little like Ragityanne, so the caption could say something like.." Ragityandie, will you be my bookend?" Anyway, Happy half way and good luck with the next 6!
ReplyDelete"Give me Ink not Blood!"
ReplyDeleteHappy Halfway Point, Rena!
Ha Ha, I like your caption, Joanna!
DeleteHaha. Thanks.
DeleteCongrats on completing your six manuscripts, Rena! I'm getting a bit lightheaded from all the champagne and the celebrations. As for a caption: "Th-th-these aren't p-p-picture books are they?"
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteHaha! Could you imagine if picture books were that long? Although Hugo Cabret could be labelled as a picture book.
DeleteCongratulations, Rena!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for sharing the celebration with all of us. I look forward to reading your poem on Friday. My idea for the caption follows:
Library of the Living Dead.
Congrats Rena on making it to the halfway point!
ReplyDeleteThe only caption I could think of is "The Boogie Doll Is Watching You!" as a kind of take off of the Boogie man...lol...

Oh Donna, that's a fun one!
DeleteThanks Donna. She is definitely a bit creepy like the boogie man.
DeleteJust wanted to say Congrats on your halfway
ReplyDeletemark party!
As for a caption...I'm drawing a blank (sorry)
Thanks.
DeleteHi Rena,
ReplyDeleteHow about The Time Traveler's Tales or The Lil' Time Traveler? I think these would get my creative juices flowing. Good Luck! :)
Hi Rena, how about The Time Traveler's Tales? I think I could get creative with that title.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteOops! You've got two comments from me, because my IPad was causing me trouble. I think it 's got its own personality. Hmmm, going to have to give this troublesome child a name.
ReplyDeleteAnnsylvania!
ReplyDeleteWay to go with your progress in 12 x 12!
Haha and thanks.
DeleteI've always been rubbish at thinking up captions, but I love the picture! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Halfway! :)
Thanks and thanks.
DeleteWholehearted congrats at the halfway mark, and even though I am to late I'll add one for the fun of it!
ReplyDelete"Raggedy-Ends"
Haha. Thanks Julie.
DeleteHappy halfway!
ReplyDeleteRaggedy Ann doesn't lend her favorites.
I know the contest closed, but I wanted to share it anyway!
DeleteHaha. Raggedy Ann's master sure doesn't like to lend her favourites especially the hardcovers.
DeleteCongrats on completing six manuscripts! This is such a great challenge.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteCaption: "Are you looking at me?" Congrats on your manuscripts. Enjoy the rest of the year.
ReplyDeleteHehe. Thanks.
DeleteCongrats Rena! On to December and the next party.
ReplyDeleteCaption suggestion: (there are so many good ones above, but...)
"Don't be avfraid...I onlee vant to drink yourr dreams."
I'm afraid I'm late to enter, and my creativity is waning, Rena, but that sure looks like Raggedy Ann to me. Maybe she want to be made real like the Velveteen Rabbit. "Play with me, read with me" pleads Raggedy Ann. "I'll come alive!"
ReplyDeleteIt's late, but I wanted to comment before I headed to bed. Keep up the good work, Rena...we will all reach our goal together!
